Sarah, so great to have you with us and we want to jump right into a really important question. In recent years, it’s become so clear that we’re living through a time where so many folks are lacking self-confidence and self-esteem. So, we’d love to hear about your journey and how you developed your self-confidence and self-esteem.
“Where I got my confidence and self-esteem is actually something I think about all the time! I can point to a pivotal year in my late 20’s when it all came together for me, but I also know that as a kid I was pretty hard-headed. Growing up I was the ‘determined’, ‘she’ll be a lawyer one day’ kid. You know the type – where you use backhanded compliments because you’re not allowed to tell a child they’re a menace to their face. So that started the all-too-familiar cycle of feeling like I couldn’t be too much, but knowing deep down I wanted more out of life. I lived like that all through high school, college, and into my adult life which spilled into my business life.
This really came to a head for me when I got diagnosed with ADHD and started talk therapy. I was 27 at the time, running a successful business, but killing myself in the process all while feeling like I wasn’t good enough the whole time. Through therapy and one of my good friends who is now a business and life coach, I realized it was okay to give myself permission to be proud of my accomplishments. It was okay to talk about them, to raise my prices in business, and to run my business my way. That’s because no one actually knows what they’re doing – we’re all making it up as we go! So now, 3 years later, I’ve been practicing trusting myself and my intuition to make the decisions I want to make and trust myself.”
