I’m going to wrap up my series on hiring a wedding videographer with the last elements of your film: editing + music! I’m asked all the time if my couples can pick their own music and in short that answer is, ‘no.’ And the answer isn’t ‘no’ to be mean, it’s ‘no’ because there’s 3 factors at play:
1. There’s music licensing laws. We can’t license any song, we can only license the available to us. If it’s on the radio, it’s most likely off limits (unless you have $50,000). That means that we get to choose music from other kinds of music libraries. Us videographers day for music licensing subscription services that are full of not-yet-discovered artists producing amazing music and all that music is available to us!
2. We know the vibe of your film. We’re sifting through all the footage picking out just the right clips and putting together the story of your day. A story you may not even know is there! Choosing just the right song then editing around the music is an integral part of our editing process. This means that someone else who isn’t involved in the editing won’t be able to choose just the right song because they haven’t seen the footage and the story line we’re working with.
3. Choosing music is overwhelming. I’ve been doing this for a decade and it’s still overwhelming. There’s so many talented artists out there that the music licensing libraries we have access to are HUGE! Plus the song has to fit just right. Sometimes it takes me 3 days to find the right song for a film. None of our couples want to bother with that.
We’re going to make sure you like the music, tho! We can sort through our music options by genre, so if you really love orchestral music or dubstep, let us know! We can try and pick music that’s in your wheelhouse or just let us handle it. If you get your films and really hate the music, we can always switch it out.
They way we edit our films is really what sets us apart. We spend a lot of time on sound design and making your film look like a Hollywood production! We ask that our couples trust the process while we’re editing, but we also want your input before the wedding! We can’t promise that we can capture every shot or make very pose happen (because wedding days are crazy busy and sometimes its impossible), but let us know what’s most important to you so we can do our best to make that moment shine in your film!
Most videographers edit this way. It’s what you’re paying us for! We’re hired because you liked the end product you saw on our website, so as hard as it is to let it go, you’ll always get the best results when you trust your videographers to deliver amazing films!
