One of the first questions couples ask me is, “What if it rains on our wedding day?”
It’s a fair question. You’ve spent months planning every detail, dreaming about your ceremony, and picturing those golden-hour portraits. The thought of rain can feel disappointing.
Here’s the good news: rain doesn’t have to ruin your wedding photos.
In fact, some of my favorite images have been created under cloudy skies, after a summer storm, or during a light drizzle. The soft light is beautiful, emotions tend to be even more genuine, and sometimes the weather creates moments you could never have planned. But sometimes, Mother Nature gets a little out of pocket.
When rain is light or temporary, we’ll make the most of it. We’ll look for covered locations, beautiful architecture, window light, clear umbrellas, or simply wait for a break in the weather. Years of photographing weddings across North Carolina have taught me how to adapt quickly while keeping the day relaxed and enjoyable.
Most weddings still end with an incredible portrait gallery, rain or shine.
Occasionally, the weather simply isn’t safe or workable. Heavy thunderstorms, lightning, flooding, or nonstop downpours can make outdoor portraits impossible. If that happens, I don’t believe you should have to settle for “good enough.”
That’s why every qualifying Gold + Sage wedding includes my Rainy Day Promise.

If severe weather prevents us from creating a meaningful couples portrait session on your wedding day, I’ll gift you a complimentary one-hour portrait session after your wedding.
You’ll put your wedding attire back on, we’ll choose a beautiful location in the Raleigh area, and we’ll create the portraits you originally envisioned without the pressure of a wedding-day timeline.
The goal is simple: I never want the weather to be the reason you don’t have the wedding portraits you’ve been dreaming about.
A post-wedding portrait session is surprisingly relaxed.
There’s no timeline to follow, no guests waiting for you, and no pressure to rush through portraits before the reception begins. We can focus entirely on creating timeless, intentional images that feel true to you.
Many couples even enjoy having another excuse to wear their wedding attire one more time, and an added bonus is you don’t even have to worry about your attire getting dirty, so we have unlimited creativity!

The Rainy Day Promise is available for weddings located within one hour of Raleigh-Durham International Airport (RDU). Hair and makeup, venue rental, permits, florals, and any other third-party expenses are not included. Sessions are scheduled based on availability and are offered only when severe weather prevents a meaningful portrait session on the wedding day.
No photographer can control the forecast.
What I can control is how I prepare, how I adapt, and how I care for my couples when things don’t go according to plan.
Whether your wedding day is filled with sunshine, dramatic clouds, or unexpected rain, my job is the same: to create photographs that bring you right back to how it felt.
And if the weather gets in the way, we’ll simply make another plan.
Because rain shouldn’t get the final say.
If you’re planning a wedding in Raleigh, Durham, Chapel Hill, or anywhere within North Carolina, I’d love to hear more about your day. My approach blends documentary storytelling with timeless portraits, so you can have it all: candid moments, editorial images, and a wedding gallery that feels authentically like you.
