This past weekend I was invited to be a part of The Bradford’s open house for their new ballroom! This venue is absolutely gorgeous and my conversations with the couples there got me thinking… What does a wedding videographer do? That is a question I get asked daily. Professional, high end wedding videography is new to the wedding scene so it’s only natural that I get this question often. I’ve been a wedding videographer for 8+ years and I’ve filmed dozens of weddings over the years all over the country. So here is my answer to ‘what does a videographer do?’:
We film the wedding day (duh), but we don’t just film it like a home video. I mean we film it. We film the heck out of it! We masterfully capture each and every moment with top of the line equipment. We use stabilizers and train in smooth handheld techniques to get that beautiful cinematic look. We take your already beautiful wedding day and make it look immaculate! I’ve spent years learning the best techniques, angles, and lighting to make your wedding day look like a Hollywood film, we study and take tests to become drone pilots, and that’s only part of it!
We also expertly capture audio. Audio is probably the main thing that sets video work apart from photography. It’s also what separates the novice from the expert videographers. Audio is the most important part of video; it tells your story, it preserves your friends’ and families’ toasts, the laughs, the tears, and the first looks. We capture all of this in tandem with your video for a holistic video experience.
Finally, we edit. This is the bulk of our time together. We spend 40+ hours editing your films, making sure that the emotions you felt when you got to see each other for the first time on wedding day comes through in your films. We want you to see your now spouse reading the letter you wrote them, and your loved ones teary eyes as you shared your first dance. All the little moments you may have missed in the hustle and bustle of the day we get to document and share with you. We’ve spent years refining our editing process to be timeless yet modern, and true to you. You can see what I’m talking about on our gallery page!
In my next blog I’ll talk about how to choose the best films for you and demystify wedding videography lingo so you can feel confident in purchasing your wedding video collection!
