Some color trends come and go. Butter yellow feels different.
It has a softness to it that photographs beautifully without feeling overly sweet. It brings warmth without demanding attention. When paired with a coastal setting, natural textures, and thoughtful design, it feels effortless in the best way.
This luxury wedding editorial at The Walden in Beaufort, North Carolina was built around that idea.
Set beneath a sailcloth tent overlooking the water, the design blended elevated garden-inspired florals with the relaxed beauty that makes coastal weddings in North Carolina and South Carolina so appealing. The result felt refined but welcoming. The kind of wedding where guests immediately settle in, order another glass of champagne, and never want the evening to end.
The tent itself became part of the design.
Instead of treating it as a blank canvas, every corner was layered with intention. Butter yellow roses, delicate blooms, and lush greenery wrapped around lounge seating, dining tables, and custom installations. The florals softened the structure of the tent and created the feeling of an outdoor garden party while still offering the comfort and sophistication couples expect from a luxury wedding experience.
One of my favorite details was how the design embraced the natural surroundings rather than competing with them.

Beaufort has a quiet elegance about it. The waterfront views, centuries-old live oaks, and slower pace create a backdrop that doesn’t need much embellishment. The design team leaned into that beauty instead of covering it up. Every floral arrangement, table setting, and furniture selection felt connected to the landscape.
That’s something I often tell couples planning coastal weddings.
You don’t have to choose between luxury and authenticity.
Some of the most beautiful weddings I’ve photographed and filmed happen when couples allow the location to do part of the storytelling. Whether that’s a waterfront estate in Beaufort, a private home on Bald Head Island, a celebration tucked into the marshes of Charleston, or a weekend at Kiawah Island, the setting becomes part of the experience.

The Lowcountry and Carolina coast have a way of creating that feeling naturally.
This editorial also highlighted why tented weddings continue to be one of my favorite wedding styles to photograph. A well-designed sailcloth tent gives you flexibility while still feeling connected to the outdoors. The soft natural light filtering through the fabric creates beautiful conditions for photography throughout the day, and the open-air atmosphere keeps guests connected to the scenery around them.
For couples considering a luxury coastal wedding in North Carolina or South Carolina, a tented reception offers a lot of creative freedom. You can build an experience that feels completely your own while still embracing the landscape that drew you to the coast in the first place.
As I walked through the space, camera in hand, I kept thinking about how easily this design could translate to some of the most sought-after wedding destinations along the East Coast. I could picture these butter yellow florals overlooking the ocean on Bald Head Island. I could see them tucked among the maritime forests of Kiawah Island. They’d feel right at home at a luxury Charleston wedding or a weekend celebration at The Dunlin.

The details may change, but the feeling stays the same.
Thoughtful design. Beautiful scenery. Genuine connection.
That’s what people remember long after the flowers are packed away.
Butter yellow feels especially at home along the coast because it reflects so much of what draws people there in the first place. It’s warm without being overpowering. Sophisticated without feeling formal. Romantic without trying too hard.
For couples who want their wedding to feel timeless while still feeling fresh, it’s a color palette worth considering.
If you’re planning a wedding in Beaufort, Charleston, Kiawah Island, Bald Head Island, or anywhere along the North Carolina and South Carolina coast, I’d love to hear what you’re dreaming up. There’s something special about coastal celebrations, and they deserve to be documented in a way that feels just as intentional as the day itself.
