Some events are about opening a new space. Others are about opening doors for people, ideas, and communities.
The grand opening of 321 Coffee’s first Durham location was very much the latter.
As a commercial and event videographer serving Raleigh, Durham, and businesses across North Carolina, I had the opportunity to film the grand opening celebration of 321 Coffee’s new storefront in downtown Durham. The morning brought together the 321 Coffee team, local community members, and supporters to celebrate a major milestone for a business built around great coffee and a deeply meaningful mission.
Located at 300 Morris Street in the Durham Innovation District, the downtown Durham coffee shop marked 321 Coffee’s expansion beyond its Raleigh roots and into a new Triangle community.
321 Coffee was founded in 2017 by Lindsay Wrege and Michael Evans, who began the company with pop-up coffee stands while attending NC State. Since then, the business has grown from folding tables at local events into a coffee company and roaster known throughout the Triangle.
But the heart of 321 Coffee has always been its mission.
The company focuses on workforce inclusion for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities, creating meaningful jobs where team members roast coffee, take orders, make lattes, and play an active role in growing the business.
At the time of the Durham opening, 321 Coffee employed more than 50 adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities and had a waitlist of more than 100 people seeking employment. The expansion into Durham created additional barista and cashier positions, making the opening about far more than a new storefront. It meant more opportunities, more visibility, and a larger community built around inclusion.
On December 3, 2022, the Durham community gathered for the official grand opening and ribbon-cutting ceremony.
There was coffee, of course. But what stood out most was the energy surrounding the people behind the business.
The goal of event videography isn’t simply to record what happened. It’s to preserve what it felt like to be there. The anticipation before the ribbon cutting. The conversations happening throughout the room. The team working behind the counter. The small interactions and genuine reactions that tell the fuller story of a business and its community.
For 321 Coffee, those moments are inseparable from the brand itself.
Their story is about people. It’s about connection. It’s about what can happen when a business creates genuine opportunity and builds its model around the belief that an inclusive workforce makes the entire community stronger.

A grand opening happens once, but the content created from it can continue working for a business long afterward.
Professional event videography gives businesses a way to document important milestones while also building a library of visual content that can be used across a website, social media, press features, future campaigns, email marketing, recruiting, and brand storytelling.
The strongest event films do more than show a beautiful space or a crowded room. They give people a reason to care.
For mission-driven businesses like 321 Coffee, video can help introduce the people behind the company, communicate its purpose, and show the real-world impact of its work in a way that feels immediate and human.
That’s what I love most about commercial filmmaking. A business is rarely just the product it sells or the service it provides. There’s a story behind how it started, who makes it possible, and why the work matters.
My job is to find that story and create something people can feel.
From grand openings and ribbon cuttings to brand launches, company events, behind-the-scenes content, and full commercial campaigns, I create strategic photography and video for businesses throughout Raleigh, Durham, the Triangle, and across North Carolina.
The goal isn’t simply to create beautiful footage. It’s to give businesses a versatile library of visual content that tells their story, builds trust, and can be used long after the event is over.
If you’re planning a grand opening, brand event, company milestone, or commercial campaign and want photography or video that feels polished without losing the personality behind your business, I’d love to hear what you’re working on.
